Petroleum Review May 2014

This month’s issue of Petroleum Review reports that China is calling the shots for Central Asian and Caspian gas, driven by strong economic growth and attempts to slow down coal demand, coupled with a ‘money-on-the-table approach’ that is trumping European and US supply plans. We also take a closer look at the development of Kazakhstan’s Kashagan field, which continues to face problems, with production temporarily halted just a month after coming onstream.

Former UK Secretary of State for Energy Lord David Howell presents a personal viewpoint on UK energy policy, which he believes requires a ‘new and different approach to the green agenda’ in order to secure reliable, low cost, sustainable energy supplies well into the future.

Meanwhile, our annual review of production data for the main quoted E&P companies reveals that many are struggling to even hold oil output levels steady while gas production appears to have plateaued.

With businesses increasingly concerned about energy prices and a recent renewed focus on energy security, energy efficiency is now entering the limelight. We take a closer look at how the UK government plans to tackle the issue through the introduction of mandatory energy audits for larger organisations.
