Petroleum Review November 2014

This month’s regional overview takes a look at recent developments in the Asia-Pacific, including construction of the first third-party crude oil terminal to open in the region. There is a particular focus on China, whose power market is undergoing a period of transition and energy mix diversification as the government seeks to address environmental and energy security. We also look at Sinopec’s new fuel retail marketing initiative in partnership with private investment.

Energy pricing in the UK and Europe is also addressed, in particular the European Union’s focus on energy efficiency in a bid to tackle rising fuel costs.

In addition, the magazine analyses Scotland’s rejection of independence in the recent referendum, which appears to have raised far more questions about the future of upstream oil and gas and renewables than it answers.

Safety is addressed in a series of articles in the latter part of this issue. We provide an update on the recently closed consultation on the EU Offshore Safety Directive, look at how key lessons can be learnt from previous incidents, and explain how hazardous processes can be simplified by better design.

This issue also includes the second of a series of pull-out infographics illustrating the value of energy in society and its influence on economic growth and social wellbeing.
