New South Wales sets new rules for coal gas seam developments

The government of New South Wales is to set out new rules for coal gas seam developments. Faced with farmers and green groups’ concerns about fracking operations, the government said it would adopt guidelines recommended by the state’s Chief Scientist, who said in a recent study that coal seam gas could be developed safely. The NSW government also plans to limit gas exploration licenses to 15% of the state’s land, down from 60%.
