Petroleum Review June 2016

This month’s regional review focuses on Russia, assessing the impact of western and US sanctions and reviewing recent mergers and acquisitions deals, and the development of domestic drilling technologies. We also look at the steps being taken by the Baltic states to reduce their reliance on Russian energy while demonstrating their membership of the European Union.

Our drilling feature explores prospects for the sector in the current volatile market and reviews some of the latest developments in automation, connectivity, robotics and new materials that are improving drilling efficiencies.

Environmental management and sustainability remain key issues for the energy sector. We review some of the new and conventional water treatment approaches that are being adopted both onand offshore, and outline how sustainability should be built into every stage of the oil field life cycle. We also highlight the measures Lukoil is implementing at its Kandym-Khauzak-Shady-Kungrad
