Niger Delta oil workers evacuated

Oil producers in the Niger Delta, including Shell, Chevron and some independent oil companies, have evacuated workers because of the deteriorating security situation in Nigeria’s most important oil producing region, reports Reuters. A resurgence of attacks has seen Nigerian production drop to its lowest in 20 years, compounding the impact of slumping crude prices. Subsequently, the Nigerian army says it had arrested members of the Niger Delta Avengers which claimed responsibility for a wave of attacks on pipelines in the restive Delta region.
