Petroleum Review April 2014

In this month’s issue of Petroleum Review we review the developments in unconventional oil and gas, with an update on the North American region, as well as a look at the global potential in this sector. We focus particularly on prospects in the UK and the hurdles which will need to be overcome if shale resources are to play a part in the UK energy mix going forwards.

We also take a closer look at E&P activities in Africa and ask if Nigeria can meet its potential to become an economic powerhouse in the next 20 years. Meanwhile, political tension and civil conflict in the oil-rich, landlocked South Sudan is delaying pipeline development and we feature an update on developments in Malawi, part of the East African Rift System, where a border dispute is hampering exploration in the region.

The particular problem of South Africa’s skills shortage is also discussed and we review some of the advice given to those new to the industry during the Professional Development programme at this year’s IP Week.
