Petroleum Review June 2014

This month’s issue of Petroleum Review argues that energy policy developments in hydrocarbon-rich nations are slowing new field development due to rising E&P expenditure. This could potentially cause a massive growth in coal usage. Any quick shift to sustainable energy may remain an improbable alternative to those governments without subsidies.

We look at the effect that the continuing unfolding events in Ukraine are having on the region’s oil and gas sector in our annual focus on Russia and Eastern Europe. We also discuss how Russian major Rosneft is driving the development of Eastern Siberian oil as a crude benchmark for the Asia-Pacific region. In addition, we look at how the global drilling rig industry is in the middle of its biggest building boom since the 1980s.
