Energy World April 2016

Gas is the first of the two themes in this issue – both conventional ‘natural’ gas and the range of unconventional sources. We start with an article that looks at the conventional UK gas scene, from underground storage to import pipelines and the growing role for imports of LNG.Subsequent articles consider the impact of unconventional gas – mainly shale from the US – on international gas markets; expanding biomethane-to-grid activities in the UK; and another gas entirely – hydrogen.

Moving on to research and development; the first article, from Innovate UK, takes a long look at how energy innovation can be encouraged, supported and expanded – particularly through a collaborative approach. We also look at fuel cells developed in the UK, real-world testing of marine and tidal energy devices, and the  development of the latest battery-free solar 0fridges.

Separately, we take a look at the state
