New gas infrastructure at Gatwick
SPIE UK has been appointed to carry out the design and installation of a new gas infrastructure system for Gatwick Airport. Work under the £1mn contract will take place in the South Terminal and engages SPIE to provide the new utility infrastructure in preparation to replace the Terminal’s high-temperature central boiler system.
The project is the first part of an ongoing programme by Gatwick, aimed at decentralising the existing high and medium-temperature hot water systems that exist terminal-wide. The current technology will be changed to a localised low-temperature hot water system. SPIE’s involvement includes design and installation of the incoming gas supply, with new gas meters and distribution pipework. The new 800 m-long pipe installation system will span the entire roof and ground floor areas to serve 14 new boiler rooms.
