Energy World January 2015

The first half of this issue concentrates on how commercial and industrial sector consumers manage their energy use, starting with an article on exactly how to properly measure and verify the savings caused by energy efficiency programmes. We then see the view from large industrial users across Europe, who want to ensure that even heavy energy users can prosper. Demand response programmes can benefit both consumers and electricity grid operators – we cover this from page 20, followed by articles on attitudes towards energy management within the UK industrial sector, and the role of external energy management and procurement companies.

We turn to energy training, employment and careers issues in the second half of the magazine, including a piece on the finalists of this year’s EI Young Energy Professional of the Year Award. Joan MacNaughton is this month’s ‘Looking back to look forward’ interviewee, and the EI’s President-Elect Professor Jim Skea introduces both the new Energy Barometer and the EI College.

Our usual international and UK news sections are at the front of the magazine, together with an opinion piece – returning to the demand side – from the UK Major Energy Users’ Council.
