Energy World February 2015

The first renewable energy projects were developed on land, of course, with a progression to the perhaps more dramatically sited offshore equivalents, yet onshore installations continue to dominate in terms of total generating capacity – at least for now. This issue concentrates on onshore renewables, with articles from page 14 covering ground-mounted solar ‘farms’; the status and prospects for wind farms located onshore; the development of hightech bioenergy sectors; and the growth of the family of waste-to-energy technologies used in the UK.

We then move overseas with articles covering the growth of renewables – much of it based on palm oil biomass and solar energy – in Malaysia; and summarise the growth of renewables internationally over the last decade, as seen by the Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century (REN21).

The second main theme is the financing of energy projects, with articles from page 28 on how large institutional investors are beginning to move into the renewables sector; and on the rather more innovative crowdfunding scene.
