New wind projects for Poland, Kenya and the US

A new 120 MW wind farm is planned for the southern Polish region of Podkarpackie. GE will supply 27 turbines for the Galicja wind farm, with ten of the 2.5 MW turbines are currently under construction. The wind farm, which is being built for Lewandpol Company, will be one of the largest in the country.

In 2013 Poland installed 894 MW of new wind capacity, ranking the country eighth highest in the world in terms of annual wind capacity growth, according to the Global Wind Energy Council’s Global wind report. At the end of 2013, Poland’s total installed capacity was 3.4 GW, around half of the of its 6.5 GW wind target for 2020.

GE will ship the turbines from its manufacturing facility in Salzbergen, Germany, and the wind farm is expected to begin commercial operation by the end of this year.

Meanwhile, Vestas is to supply 365 turbines, each rated 850 kW, for the Lake Turkana project in Kenya. The 310 MW project, for Lake Turkana Wind Power, is scheduled to start in the first half of 2016 with the plant completed by the second half of 2017. Vestas is also providing a 15-year service agreement for the project.

Finally, the Grandview I wind farm in the Texas Panhandle, a 211 MW project 40 km east of Amarillo, has commenced operation. The E.ON and GE Energy Financial Services project is made up of 118 turbines, and forms part of E.ON’s 2.7 GW wind portfolio in the US.
