R Stokes, Towards zero routine flaring, Petroleum Review, January 2015, p 38

In the natural gas world, continuing practices of burning off about 140 bn cubic metres annually of stranded gas has led to the Global Gas Flaring Reduction Partnership of the World Bank aiming at zero flaring by 2030.   Problems of transport from wells to processing plants can be met by pipeline, liquefaction to 1/600th volume to LNG for long distances, or compression to 1/300th volume to CNG for short distances.   Alternative solutions are GTL, or direct conversion to electricity, but scale is critical.   Small and micro applications may involve modular and flexible skid-mounted conversion units, and some 800 existing oil fields worldwide are potential users.
