Keystone XL pipeline a step closer

The Republican-led US Congress gave final passage to a bill to approve the Keystone XL pipeline, in early February. However, President Barack Obama has vowed to veto plans for the pipeline because it would pluck the approval process from his Administration. He wants the State Department to finish its assessment of the pipeline to make his decision on it afterward. Transcanada Corp’s pipeline has been pending six years and would carry 830,000 b/d of mostly Canadian oil sands petroleum to Nebraska en route to refineries and ports.
