Selecting the proper dehydrating agent is important for controlling emissions from glycol dehydration units. Use of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX) is recommended for ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol and triethylene glycol systems. Economic evaluations compare glycol regeneration designs against other abatement technologies. Glycol selection criteria are reviewed for removing volatile organic compounds to meet legislative requirements of 10 tons/yr for any pollutant and 25 tons/yr of total pollutants. Two case histories are reviewed and the operation for various glycol dehydration units is described and illustrated. Operating costs are discussed. 7 refs.
