Petrobras deepwater technology update. M. Assayag, J. Formigi, and S. Assayag. Pipeline Gas Ind. Deepwater Technol. Supplement, August 1998, 81(8), 23--34 (7 pages).

Recent important oil strikes by Petrobras in deep water off Brazil are reviewed. These are at water depths of 400 to 1000 m and some exceed 1000 m. Technical requirements for deep water drilling in the Campos Basin are reviewed. Floating production units and projects under development are summarized. Data are also given on the main drilling and technologies used, and on the types of mooring systems tested. The challenges of drilling in ultra-deep water are discussed and future technologies are reviewed. A new programme called PROCAP-2000 is described and field trials are planned. 6 refs.
