Petroleum in the next century. Part 1. Perceptions of future, often flawed, shape plans and policies. K. Roland. OGJ, 23 February 1998, 96(8), 56--61.

This report explores the understanding from a Norwegian perspective of the petroleum industry after more than 25 years of petroleum activity in the North Sea and the current perceptions commonly shared by industry and analysts regarding future developments are reviewed. Consideration is given to fallacies, insights and perceptions that have changed over the past 25 years. Exhaustion is reviewed as a `non' problem, and cost matters, the Mathusian error in gas, and geopolitics, not depletion are discussed. 41 refs.
