Machinery vibration---origins, impressions, and cures. I. Haq. Hydrocarbon Processing, January 1995, 74(1), 35--40.

Vibration diagnostic engineering of rotor-bearing-casing systems are reviewed. New problems are being encountered because of the current trend towards high performance and light weight machinery. Effects of internal and external forces on rotor vibration are described and illustrated. The effects discussed are rotating dynamic stall, oil whirl, oil slip, structural resonance, vane/blade passing vibration, misalignment rotor rubbing, gear mesh vibrations, and shaft crack. In each of these areas advances in the technology of rotating machinery diagnostics and dynamics pose continuing challenges in order to avoid potentially disasterous machinery malfunctions. 10 refs.
