Examination of middle distillate fuel insolubles by pyrolysis/field ionization mass spectrometry. R.N. Hazlett, D.R. Hardy and R. Malhotra. Energy and Fuels, May/June 1994, 8(3), 774--781.

Solids isolated from two diesel fuels after ageing under a variety of conditions were analysed. It was found that for each fuel, filterable solids and adherent solids were of similar composition. But the filterable solids from the two fuels were different. It was also shown that high temperature stressing test methods provide a reliable means of simulating ageing. The effects of dodecylbenzene sulphonic acid and p-tertbutylthiophenol additives on ageing were also investigated. 22 refs.
