Consideration is given to current thinking and methods for history matching. Reference is made to two new and interesting ideas---the stochastic description of reservoir parameters and the application in stochastical simulations, and the calibration of reservoir models (history match) with optimal control algorithms. Results are presented in the field of hydrology from a conference in Norway in 1994 and a colloquium on subsurface flow and transport held in Paris. 6 refs.
