Experimental modelling. O. Litonov. Proc. 13th Ship and offshore structures congress, Vol. 1, Environment Report, Chapter 8, pages 32--35. (See abstract 884 for complete reference).

Attention is drawn to the way in which experimental modelling provides useful information for validation of theory or theoretical results, as well as the possibility of providing an impulse for developing new theories and numerical models. Experimental modelling of both irregular wave and of ice behaviour on offshore structures is reported, and the interaction of supporting structures with the soil is discussed. Earthquakes with reference to the problem of modelling is also mentioned.
