Gasunie and Vopak have signed up Shell as the founding customer for their planned LNG Break Bulk terminal in Rotterdam. The terminal is being built on the Maasvlakte and is due to be operational by the end of 2014. It will receive LNG by pipeline from the nearby Gate LNG terminal, also owned by Vopak and Gasunie, and supply LNG in small parcels to marine bunkering and truck fuelling stations. The terminal constitutes the start of the planned small-scale LNG supply chain in the Netherlands and north-west Europe. It has the support of the Dutch government and fits into the recently announced ‘Green Deal’ plan for the region.
