Petronas has awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for its first floating LNG production unit to Technip and Daewoo Shipbuilding, according to Hazardous Cargo Bulletin. The unit is to be commissioned by end-2015, producing 1.2mn t/y of LNG offshore Bintulu, Malaysia. The project is the first attempt to monetise the gas reserves in Malaysia’s numerous remote and stranded fields that are currently uneconomical to develop by traditional means.
