A geothermal power plant will be built in the state of Puebla, eastern Mexico. The Los Humeros II plant has been commissioned by Mexico’s state-owned electric company Comisión Federal de Electricidad, and is scheduled for completion in October 2011. The plant and associated facilities will have a guaranteed net capacity of 25 MW says Alstom, who will carry out the complete engineering, procurement and construction work. Mexico is the fourth largest geothermal energy producer worldwide after the US, the Philippines and Indonesia. The plant will be the first geothermal project that Alstom has contributed to since 2000, when it installed four 25 MW units in Los Azufres, Mexico. Alstom sees the geothermal market, currently present in 70 countries worldwide, as ‘fast-growing’.
