Abandoned South African well shows new promise

Oil shows in an overlooked well drilled by Phillips Petroleum offshore South Africa in 2000 could indicate a major new hydrocarbons province. The JCD-1 well was completed in May 2000 and lies east of Durban in the Tugela Cone, a vast deltaic system similar to the Nile Delta.
