ENVIRONMENT/COMMUNITY ALLIANCE AGAINST WEST AFRICA GAS PIPELINE

An alliance of non-governmental environmental groups and some local communities in Ghana, Nigeria and Togo have rejected the proposed plan to construct a gas pipeline running from Nigeria to Benin, Togo and Ghana. Friends of the Earth Network of communities in Nigeria said in a statement that the absence of an Environmental Impact Assessment on the $400m project was an indication that environmental considerations were not on the agenda of the project consortium.
