‘World’s first’ hydrogen double deckers for Aberdeen

What is said to be the world’s first fleet of double-decker hydrogen-fuelled buses has been launched into service in Aberdeen – operated by First Bus in a project led by Aberdeen City Council. Built by UK firm Wrightbus, the zero emission fleet emits nothing more than water from its exhausts.

Plans are in place for Aberdeen to make its own hydrogen to power the buses, making it an even greener energy source for the local community.

Further fleets of hydrogen buses are to be launched later this year in Birmingham and London, said Wrightbus Chairman Jo Bamford, adding: ‘It’s vital that other towns and cities sit up and take note of their example.’ The company has created 40 new jobs at its Ballymena factory to keep up with demand.
