In Australia, the first flight has been completed successfully of the BAE Prismatic PHASA-35 (Persistent High Altitude Solar Aircraft). This vehicle is designed to operate autonomously at altitudes up to 60 000 ft for up to a year carrying a payload of 20 kg. The solar cells on the upper surfaces of the wing and the horizontal stabilizer power the electric motor and regenerate the Li-ion batteries for night operation.
