In UK, the Airbus E-Fan X project partnered with Rolls-Royce is proceeding with a BAE Systems Avro RJ100 aircraft now stationed at Cranfield for one of its LF507 jet engines to be replaced with a 2 MW electric fan powered by a 2.5 MW generator driven by a Rolls-Royce AE 2100 turboshaft located aft, together with 2 tonnes of Li-ion batteries. Individual components are already under test, and the technology is targeted to be complete by 2030.
