In UK, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers points out that a blanket ban on new combustion-engined transport, including hybrids, being brought forward to 2035 is not necessarily the optimal approach. For example, as many as 99% of the 300 million cars in Europe are currently powered by piston engines. Hence further investment in transport must also include renewable and low-carbon fuels derived from net-zero sources.
