M Meineke, Greener aviation gains height, Petroleum Review, November 2019, p 32

In aviation, improvement in energy efficiency appears to be insufficient to match the rapid growth in airborne passenger numbers, hence sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs) offer some relief in containing combustion emissions. One promising development is the proposal to build a waste-to-jet fuel plant at Immingham, UK. This would convert thousands of tonnes of household and commercial solid waste into clean burning SAFs, cutting greenhouse gas by 70% and soot by 90%, with near elimination of SOx.
Another eight pathways to produce SAFs are being worked on.
