The downside of electric vehicles would appear to be the demand for cobalt, nickel and lithium for batteries that could cause environmental damage to sources such as China, Bolivia and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Furthermore, manufacturing of an electric car emits twice as much CO2 as its diesel counterpart.
