Energy World September 2018

Led by the UK, Denmark and Germany, offshore wind energy is one of the world’s most exciting new growth industries. We include three articles in this issue, starting with a report from a wind turbine blade manufacturing facility in the Isle of Wight.

Subsequent articles cover early moves towards establishing an offshore wind industry in the US, starting with the first wind farm off the north-eastern coast; and innovative technology – including turbine foundations – being trialled at a wind farm off Scotland’s east coast.

Let’s not forget tidal energy in the offshore scheme of things. We also include a piece on the scope for tidal range schemes – barrages and lagoons – around the world. Then we concentrate on energy management. Two articles, from the Association for Decentralised Energy and
Centrica, advise seeing energy management in an expanded form to also include on-site generation and energy storage.
