Italy-Croatia gas interconnector under evaluation

Decorative image New

Eni and INA have signed a bilateral cooperation agreement to jointly evaluate the construction of a gas interconnector between Italy and Croatia. The initiative aims to leverage existing infrastructure, used until now for offshore gas production activities in the upper Adriatic Sea, and, in addition, transport gas between the two countries.

The interconnector will increase the degree of integration, security of supply, competitiveness and sustainability of the Croatian market, as well as that of the Italian market, as the infrastructure will be able to operate reverse flows, state the two companies. It will also help consolidate Italy’s position as a gas hub in Europe.

The agreement was signed a week after Eni announced it was selling 100% of Eni Croatia to INA, subject to approval by the competent authorities. The deal includes the Northern Adriatic and Marica gas fields, of which INA will become sole operator.
