In the maritime world, ships are considered to generate more than 2% of carbon emissions. The International Maritime Organisation has thus agreed to reductions of at least 50% by 2050. These could be achieved by factors such as reduced ship speeds, lower drag hull designs and replacement of heavy fuel oil with LNG, hydrogen, ammonia, electricity or nuclear power, together with harnessing solar and wind power. Even with existing technologies, emissions could be cut by 95% by 2035.
