M Le Page, Death of the gas guzzler, NewScientist, 25 November 2017, p 22

In the heavy goods transport world, about 4 gigatonnes of CO2 are produced each year, possibly tripling by year 2050, and this is a major incentive to support electric trucks. Large trailer-pulling trucks can carry a 20 tonne load for 1400 km on a tankful of diesel. For this range, an electric truck would need a 25 tonne battery, with a load of only 4 tonnes. However, Tesler claims its trailer-pulling trucks can carry 36 tonnes up to 800 km, but battery prices are still extremely high, although running and maintenance costs are lower. New light all-electric trucks are beginning to appear for parcel delivery and garbage collection duties. In Utah, Nikola Motor Company plans to produce hydrogen fuel-cell trucks for lease, together with hydrogen supplies and refuelling stations.
