In Europe, it is recognised the, despite the philosophy of non-impacting on food sources, the practice of hugely increasing supplies of palm-oil biodiesel has proved problematical, and has led to proposed revision of the Renewable Energy Directive. The European Commission is setting a specific target of 3.6% for advanced biofuels, defined as those based on renewable electricity, waste-based fossil-type fuels or renewable fuels of non-biological origin such as hydrogen and power-to-liquids.
