Petroleum Review March 2014

This month’s issue of Petroleum Review takes a closer look at enhanced oil recovery, a sector that is experiencing increased interest as a result of higher oil prices, and the role that carbon capture and storage will play in mitigating greenhouse gas emissions going forwards. We also review the latest reactions to energy and climate targets being proposed by the European Commission in the run up to a heads of states meeting in Brussels later this month.

Marine seismic is the focus of our annual review of E&P geoscience applications for the oil and gas sector and we explain how new technologies are being applied to improve geoscientists’ working environment, accuracy and productivity. The magazine also reviews some of the highlights of IP Week 2014, the theme of which was ‘Managing risk and maximising opportunities’. Meanwhile, our regional spotlight focuses on oil and gas activities in the Middle East.

The latest in our series of articles celebrating the Energy Institute’s (EI) centenary appears in the centre of this issue – in the form of reflections from some of the more recent presidents of the EI and its predecessor organisations, the Institute of Petroleum and the Institute of Energy.
