Petroleum Review August 2014
Following the UK government’s announcement that it plans to contribute short-term funding of £15mn over five years to help kick-start the establishment of a new arm’s length regulatory body in the official response to Sir Ian Wood’s review into improving efficiencies in the UK’s offshore oil and gas industry, this month’s issue of Petroleum Review takes a look at the challenges that lie ahead for the North Sea oil and gas sector. We also report on concerns about capital expenditure and rates of return for projects offshore Norway.
Our annual European bulk storage feature looks at what terminal operators are doing in the face of major shifts in trade flows as a result of weak local end-user demand and refinery closures. This issue is also addressed in our p2 ‘Perspective’ commentary from Martyn Lyons,Managing Director, Simon Storage, and Chairman of the Tank Storage Association.
The ‘hidden threat’ of corrosion under pipe supports (CUPS) is reviewed this month, as well as the development of new guidance that will help operating companies understand the range of integrity threats that CUPS can pose and how to determine an effective inspection and maintenance strategy.
We also have overviews of the expanding demand for natural gas vehicle infastructure in Europe and new biomethane plant developments.
