Energy World May 2014
In this issue's cover The ‘Oyster’ near-shore wave energy converter , currently being tested in Orkney, Scotland can be seen – see page 30 for the full story on ocean energy, including both wave and tidal devices. Our renewables feature also includes a report from the recent European Wind Energy Association conference, held in Barcelona in March; and takes a look at the long-term performance of wind turbines. A further article compares the relative success of bioenergy projects in the UK and Europe.
Our other main focus is nuclear power, covering both the debate being held in Europe over the deal to build Britain’s first new nuclear power station for decades, and work being carried out across the country to decommission Britain’s first and oldest Magnox reactors.
Finally, Dr Bernie Bulkin FEI is the latest ‘looking back to look forward’ interviewee in our series to celebrate EI’s centenary.
