Petroleum Review January 2015
We begin the New Year with a look at how the past has very much defined current geopolitical conflicts and ask if sanctions actually work in practice. We also note that 2015 marks a ‘crossroads’ for the energy sector and consider prospects for the year ahead in a rapidly changing market.
Looking to the future, we follow in the wake of the starship Enterprise to find out how the search for new energy resources is targeting the ‘final frontier’ on a mission ‘to boldly go where no man has gone before’.
This issue also provides an overview of some of the latest technological innovations and trends driving today’s global oil and gas sector. We outline how Big Data can be used to derive value from all data by leveraging emerging technologies and pattern-based studies for innovation, strategy, faster decisions and better decisions to help the bottom line. The magazine also explains why portable emissions measurement systems (PEMS) are likely to become Europe’s solution for measuring real driving emissions. We highlight new approaches being taken to reduce routine flaring and venting of stranded gas, both on and offshore, and outline how remote sensing will play an increasingly important role in the upstream sector as operators aim to contain capex and opex while securing longer productive life out of their assets.
