Two Ohio solar projects begin operations feeding electricity to tech giants

Invenergy has announced that its 150 MW Hardin II Solar Energy Center, in Ohio, US, has begun commercial operations; whilst the state’s biggest solar project to date, the 577 MW Fox Squirrel Solar project, is also now fully operational.

Meta Platforms will purchase the renewable energy generated from Hardin II Solar. The project represents additional energy generation capacity in the region and aims to enhance reliability of the area’s electrical grid.

Meta Platforms announced last month that it had signed four contracts with Invenergy, for 760 MW of clean energy, taking Meta’s total clean energy procurement from the company to over 1 GW.

For the solar developer, the Hardin II Solar project will be followed by the 150 MW Delilah II Solar project in Texas, expected to begin commercial operations this year; the 110 MW Tip Top Solar project in New Mexico, expected in 2026; and the 350 MW Chalk Bluff Solar project in Arkansas, expected in 2027.

Fox Squirrel Solar begins operations

Meanwhile, EDF Renewables and Enbridge have announced that the Fox Squirrel Solar project achieved full operational status in December 2024, with all three phases now actively delivering electricity to the grid.

Fox Squirrel Solar, a ground-mounted solar facility with total capacity of 577 MWac/749 MWdc, consists of 1.4 million panels and 159 inverters. It is said to be one of the largest utility-scale solar developments east of the Mississippi River and the largest onshore renewable energy project developed and built by EDF Renewables North America.

The full generation capacity will be delivered to Amazon through power purchase agreements.
