Wintershall given green light for Nova

The Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy has approved Wintershall Norge and its partners plan for development and operation (PDO) for the Nova development offshore Norway.

The field is to be developed via two subsea templates tied back to the nearby Gjøa platform, operated by Neptune Energy. In addition to processing and exporting production, Gjøa will also provide lift gas to the field and water injection for pressure support.

Nova’s recoverable reserves are estimated to be around 80mn boe, of which the majority is oil. Due onstream in 2021, Nova will be Wintershall Norge’s third operated subsea field, after Vega, which is also tied back to the Gjøa platform (Wintershall’s share: 20%) and Maria in the Norwegian Sea.

Wintershall Norge AS (operator) owns a 35% stake in Nova, partnered by Capricorn Norge (a fully owned subsidiary of Cairn Energy) 20%, Spirit Energy 20%, Edison Norge 15% and DEA Norge 10%.
