Bolton hospital to achieve major energy savings through CHP and EPC

Decorative image New
Breathe Energy has completed work to deliver energy savings through an energy performance contract (EPC) agreed with Bolton NHS Foundation Trust estate back in 2015. The completed project has seen a £6.3mn investment at the Royal Bolton Hospital with an EPC that will yield guaranteed savings of over £0.8mn per annum and a reduction of Bolton NHS carbon emissions by 34%.

Savings have been achieved by the removal of the existing coal boilers and replacement with a combined heat and power (CHP) plant; a new energy efficient boiler (pictured being delivered); a new chiller; modifications to the building management system; replacement of the old calorifier with plate heat exchangers and replacement of faulty steam traps.
