Energy use in buildings and homes is the first theme of this issue. Two feature articles cover the decarbonisation of British homes from different angles – the policies required, and practical considerations around improving building fabric and the adoption of low carbon heating.
Further articles discuss the scope for savings from optimising the operation of building services across Europe, and the use of energy performance contracts.
Our second theme is nuclear power, starting with a look at the rare event of a new country – the UAE – embarking on a nuclear power programme and what this may mean for the industry. Two more technical articles cover ‘smart’ components for UK nuclear new-build, and techniques to extend the working lives of reactors.
