Scottish government to establish Longannet taskforce
The Scottish government is to establish a taskforce to support the workers, businesses and communities impacted by the closure of Longannet power station. This follows confirmation by the owner, Scottish Power, that it will close the facility in March 2016. Ministers also highlighted that Scottish Power cited the UK transmission charging framework as a key factor in its decision – both to close Longannet early, and not to pursue plans for new thermal generation at Cockenzie.
