Petroleum Review October 2011

In this month’s issue of Petroleum Review, we look at how legislation changes announced in the UK Budget in March are set to impact the UK North Sea decommissioning industry. Operators will have to assess how they move forward with the removal of ageing assets as the fiscal changes play out across the sector. We also look at how decommissioning in the North Sea could provide a real opportunity for the UK to become a global knowledge leader once a greater understanding of the associated risks and implementation of new contracting strategies and management solutions have been established.

This issue also reviews the work involved in setting global standards for the safe handling of aviation fuel. It outlines the work of the Joint Inspection Group (JIG) – a forum for experts in the aviation fuel supply industry to come together to establish and enhance standards for the safe handling and quality control of aviation fuels. In addition, we take a look at how the aviation sector is aiming to reduce its carbon emissions with the latest developments in bio-jet fuel, as well as new fuel-efficient flying techniques.

The potential for European unconventional gas is also examined, as we assess the future for shale gas production amid the uncertain economics and feared environmental impacts
