Petroleum Review August 2011

Even during the midst of the global downturn, operators of independent bulk liquids terminals were reporting high utilisation rates in excess of 95%. Operators have responded by investing in expanding capacity and services to handle the changing trade flow. This issue looks at where that investment is being made and also focuses on the US market, where the dominant trends differ from elsewhere in the world.

This issue also focuses on Russia, and discusses whether an oil pipeline link between Russia and China could herald the start of a new era of energy cooperation between the two countries.

This year’s BP Statistical Review of World Energy was published in June. Providing a wealth of insights into energy markets in 2010 it shows that global energy demand has rebounded, with demand and production of all energies expanding after the 2009 recession. This issue takes a closer look at the statistics, as we present our own analysis of the findings.

The battle to keep platforms profitable in the North Sea in the face of declining asset integrity continues – we look at how operators are keeping corrosion at bay whilst maximising tail-end production at an economically viable level.
