Petroleum Review April 2012
This issue looks at the latest gas developments, with an overview of the prospects for gas-topower (GTP) – no longer used primarily as a peak demand supplier, its share of the electricity generation marketplace has surged. We also discuss induced seismicity in unconventional gas E&P – a geological phenomenon sometimes causing a public relations headache in the search for shale gas across the globe.
We continue our review of this year’s IP Week from day two and day three of the conference programme, which included regional focuses on Africa and on Russia, Arctic and the CIS. The event also looked at the latest developments in deepwater E&P, pipelines, fuels for the future, and in the downstream sector, as well as a special panel session on gas.
This month’s regional focus is on Africa and we assess the oil-pricing dispute between South Sudan and north Sudan and prospects for the countries going forward. The issue also looks at kidnap and ransom by Somali pirates – despite a fall in ships being successfully hijacked, ransom dealings are as complex as ever.
The magazine also discusses the forces shaping today’s global lubricant market and explains how diesel fuel additives can be used to improve the filterability of biofuels.
