Petroleum Review November 2012
This month’s Petroleum Review includes our annual focus on the Asia-Pacific, with a round-up of E&P developments and an overall analysis of the region, which suggests that although oil and gas demand growth slowed slightly in 2011 compared with year earlier levels, growth has remained vigorous and will continue to be so. Meanwhile, we look at how countries in the region are planning to develop their own renewable energy projects in a bid to diversify their energymix, strengthen their security of supply and meet this growth in demand.
This issue reviews some of the Energy Institute’s technical work on health and safety – in particular, a look at human factors and the guidance that has been developed on quantifying human reliability in risk assessments. We also discuss how organisations are being encouraged to engage with health and safety initiatives centred on learning from incidents, and we outline some of the major innovations in portable gas detection that have significantly improved the safety of personnel operating in the oil and gas sector.
Petroleum Review has also interviewed Dr Angus McCoss, Exploration Director, Tullow Oil, about the company’s operations in Africa and his views on the region’s future prospects, ahead of the IP Week 2013 conference, where Dr McCoss is to speak further on this topic.
